For Module 3, we used data from the Ward 7 school district in Washington DC to create a map that had an emphasis on the locations of all of the elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. The primary focus of the map was the cartographic principles of design, and I focused on contrast and balance in the map I made. With ArcGIS, I created a map of Ward 7 and an insert map of DC to show the location of Ward 7. Using arcGIS, I started by making the Ward 7 area substantially darker than the surrounding area and making the roads a substantially lighter color than the schools. I also used the unique values gradient for the symbology of the schools to differentiate between elementary, middle, and high schools. I labeled the neighborhoods in Ward 7 by creating an SQL query that labeled only the neighborhoods I selected, and labeled the surrounding states and the District of Columbia.
