Module 5: Analytical Data

For my selected visual techniques I choose two methods that easily and quickly displayed the two points I wanted to hit home. First, by creating a quick visual of the prevalence of food deserts I was able to use an infographic that displayed a percentage in a way that is easily visually digestible. I also used a pie chart to emphasize the amount of the United States population that is obese, so that the amount of the population that is effected is readily viewed in a way that creates a stark contrast.

When finalizing my layout, I chose a consistent color scheme that is both familiar and easily digestible to the viewer. I also made sure the layout was able to be viewed in an order that told a story about the data, so that viewers could quickly glean the data visuals in the beginning to get an idea of what the rest of the infographic is about and then dive deeper into what these visuals mean for the purpose of the infographic. I minimized white space and made the map layouts easy to fit into the story the infographic is trying to convey.
